This is my first attempt at reblogging. I believe dwiwyd and I come at things a bit differently, but we’re interested in similar topics. And in this case, we agree.
The religious right are determined to get into politics bay any back door or side door they think is available to them. This article explains a program that encourages pastor to preach politics and even endorse a candidate by direct speech or indirectly by manner and content of speech. The organizer “Alliance Defense Fund” claims that pastors’ freedom of religious expression allows them to speak as they will.
But the Constitution and the IRS see it differently. Tax exemption is a privilege that can be withdrawn and violation of church state separation can be punished. While the ADF wants to draw a court challenge, ‘Pulpit Freedom Sunday” will get them what they want so long as so many pastors are preaching politics and endorsing candidates that the law cannot catch them all.
It seems that ethics, morality and justice have no place at ADF.
