I love working with WordPress for lots of reasons. It’s open-source, it’s extremely extensible, and… probably most importantly, it has a GIGANTIC community of folks who love to talk with each other and get smarter and find and create new tools. WordCamp is like the ComicCon of WordPress geeks. So I fit right in!

So today and tomorrow I get to enjoy WordCamp San Diego. And it’s awesome.

Adam at WordCamp San DiegoToday, my friend and colleague Adam McLane rocked a great presentation talking about “Getting the Craft Back into Content“. That’s him over there. Cute, ya?

The other thing I get to do is walk around and tell everyone about FooBox. If you have images in your posts, or specifically galleries on your website, then you’ll love FooBox. It’s a responsive lightbox tool that integrates with pretty much any WordPress gallery or images on your site. “Responsive” means that it will adapt to any size screen it’s activated on. It looks awesome on smartphones, tablets, and small and gigantic flatscreens. If you’re interested in taking it for a spin, then head over to the site and use “FOOCAMPSAN” to get 33% off the price. Then come back here and say “Thanks, Matt! You’re awesome!”

Another great thing at WordCamps is the chance to get great presentations from employees from Automattic, the company that creates WordPress. Earlier, I heard a presentation on the upcoming 3.6 release of WordPress from Aaron Campbell, who’s actually leading the team that’s creating the release. That’s cool. I also heard a a presentation on how to evaluate a WordPress theme from one of Automattic’s “Theme Wrangler’s” Michelle Langston.

Whether you are a WP pro, or just wanting to optimize your blog to reach the most people you can, WordCamp’s are a great experience. Highly recommended.
